Pilot Light Records presents "Too Much Blues" from blues musician Willie J. Law Jr, a modern portrayal of a time when blues was the predominant language of the music world.
Written by Matt Srolis
With a world that is quick to advance and head towards the new norm, there are often relics of the past that tend to get left behind in the dust. However, just as the return of genres like synth-pop and classic rock have gained significant traction once again, Texas blues revivalist acts like Willie J. Laws have been making recent strides of their own. If his recent album "Too Much Blues" on Pilot Light Records is any indication, currently at #14, and rising on the Roots Music Radio chart, future of Texas Blues is in very good hands.
Fully embodying the Texas soul, Willie J. Laws is more than a guitar “gun slinger," having the ability to craft memorable, bluesy licks that flow seamlessly with his tender vocals. His music incorporates the likes of many different genres, such as R&B, country, funk, and of course, blues. This fusion of unique sounds and flavors is inspired by a variety of influences, such as T-Bone Walker, Lightning Hopkins, Albert King and many others.
Willie J. has quite the list of accolades: He lead the house band at The House of Blues/Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, and Margeritaville in New Orleans, and won the Mass Blues Society Challenge in 2011. He has also played two tours in Russia for the US Consulate in St Petersburg.
“Regl’ Ol’ Blues” is the opening track for Willie J Laws newest LP release, “Too Much Blues, produced by Grammy Award-winning producer Paul Nelson (former guitarist of blues legend Johnny Winter). The song immediately sets the tone and vibe for the following songs to come. This track in particular uses the framing of a slow R&B song, coupled with bluesy licks and tender, yet strong, soulful vocals. This combination results in an intimate slow march, one which manages to keep energy afloat while still having a beautiful serenade of saxophones, and of course, Willie’s heartfelt voice.
Like many in the blues world, Willie J. Laws lives for live playing, and plans to tour extensively in 2024. Fans can look for dates on his website: https://www.williejlawsband.com/
